RCR to bring the “Leicht” to Phoenix
WELCOME, N.C. (April 2, 2008) -- Richard Childress Racing (RCR) announced today that Stephen Leicht will drive the No. 21 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS in the Bashas' Supermarkets 200 held in Phoenix, AZ on April 11th.

The Asheville, NC native is excited to improve on his 2007 performance in the Bashas' Supermarkets 200.

“I am thrilled to be coming back to Phoenix and to be racing for RCR, they have great equipment and great people which has allowed me to run really well so far this year,“ said Leicht.

Leicht, who signed on in January to run a minimum of two races with RCR in 2008, in the No. 21 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS, has a had a great start with a 10th place finish in California, and a 12th place finish in Nashville.

"It is a privilege to be a part of a championship team this season and hope that I can continue to carry on the winning tradition that Richard Childress, Shane Wilson and the team has built the past couple of years," Leicht said.

A sponsor has not been named yet for the RCR No. 21 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS entry into the Bashas' Supermarkets 200, but the team is confident that one will be found soon.

"We have a strong driver lineup with Stephen Leicht and Bobby Labonte and the team is a proven championship team. We're actively seeking sponsorship so, once its in place, we feel this is a team that can win races," said Richard Childress.

In November, it was announced that Bobby Labonte, the 2000 Sprint Cup Series and 1991 Nationwide Series champion, will compete in 15 races in the No. 21 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS.

Leicht ran his first full Nationwide Series season in 2007 where he captured his first series victory in June at Kentucky Speedway and finished seventh in the points standings on the strength of three top-five and seven top-10 finishes.

Leicht made his Nationwide Series debut in October 2005 at Memphis (Tenn.) Motorsports Park, the same year he earned the American Speed Association Late Model national championship. He was the American Racing Association rookie of the year in 2003 and earned more than 150 feature wins in quarter midgets and go-karts.
